What in the World Wide Web is Bracketology?
Bracketology is the study of brackets. Bracketology has nothing to do with HTML, punctuation, or furniture brackets but is the prediction of The NCAA (March Madness) College Basketball Tournament!
A "Bracketologist" not only picks which teams he or she thinks will win but predicts (throughout the year) which 64 teams will be invited to the NCAA Tournament field and where they will be placed in the brackets and regions according to various factors such as wins and losses, conference strength, and overall strength of schedule.
The first person to coin the term "Bracketology" was
Joe Lunardi. ESPN's resident Bracketologist has become somewhat of a celebrity (especially in March) and has spawned many other bracket-related sites such as
Bracketography,
Bracketology 101 and
Bracketscience.com.
